Word-of-the-Week Challenge #3

Week 2's Word-of-the-Week challenge term is "dappled."

I will be posting haikus using this term throughout the week, and I'd love to read the haikus that others come up with, using this word.  Please post your haiku in the comment section here, or respond to one of the haikus I post during the week.  Cheers!

Word-of-the-Week Responses: Weeks 1 & 2

Below are the responses sent in by people responding to the week 1 challenge ("Flex") and week 2 challenge "coffee-stained").

WEEK 1: "Flex"

All of the ladies
Come to the yard when I flex
To teach, I must charge

          -Andrew

I've seen him flexing
in the yard for all to see
Wouldn't pay for that

          -Eli

The taste of my flex
Is an acquired one, miss.
Don't hate what you ain't.

          -Andrew

Rather flexible
I'm told are your mother's tastes.
Among other things.*

*I must clarify:
Mom jokes are just easy hits.
No hate to your mom.**

**But were my aim harm,
I'd mention your mom's schedule:
Nice to work flextime.

          -Eli

WEEK 2: "Coffee-Stained"

My pants have brown spots
I hope beyond all hope that
they are coffee stained.

          -Andrew

nervous energy
massive productivity
mouth is coffee-stained
          -Andrew

Coffee-stained carpet
Not my doing,but I clean.
Reminders don't work,

Thinks the mom, sighing,
Wonderin' how many times
Before it sinks in.

          -Barbara

Grouchy Saturdays.
Dark mornings, coffee-stained shirt.
Might be an addict...

          -Andrew

It's not a problem,
She swears while she shakes, showing

A coffee-stained smile.
          -Sayuri

In a range of earthen hues,
Beet, tea, coffee-stained.

"Coffee-Stained" 1: A Habit

Trash full of black grounds,
Dark, coffee-stained countertops,
Signs of a habit.

Word-of-the-Week Challenge #2

Week 2's Word-of-the-Week challenge term is "coffee-stained."

I will be posting haikus using this term throughout the week, and I'd love to read the haikus that others come up with, using this hyphenated term.  Please post your haiku in the comment section here, and please note whether it's okay if I use your haiku on the main blog later.  Cheers!

"Flex" 4: X-Y's

Gym full of X-Y's,
Deformed, beef-backed flexers who
Mistake "big" for "best."

Fit men draw glances,
Muscle definition King,
But cartoon biceps?

They don't understand
And aim at Hulkdom, missing
The appeal of men.

"Flex" 3: Mr. Universe

A. Schwarzenegger
"Actor" slash governor slash
Mister Universe.

A sixty-year-old
Whose body in the '60s
Never ceased to flex.

Friday, May 17, 2013

"Flex" 2: Nightlife

Golden flecks shimmer
On tanned, toned physiques. Nightlife.
Dancers strut, flex, spin.

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

"Flex" 1: Happy Toes

Home from work, shoes off.
Happy toes meet carpet nap,
Instinctively flex.

Word-of-the-Week Haiku Challenge

I'm feeling the need to spice things up, so starting today, I will be posting a word-of-the-week.  I have a jar full of random words at home, and today's drawing gave me:

"Flex"

I will be posting haikus between today and Friday that use this week's word.  I'd like to open the challenge to any other haiku fans & friends to develop your own haiku using the word-of-the-week.  Feel free to use any form of the word (like Flexed, flexing, etc.) Post your haiku in the comment section here, and please note whether it's okay if I use your haiku on the main blog page later.  Also, let me know if you want me to post your name with it or just leave it anonymous.

Cheers!
