Teach Me (for Jan. 28-31)

How did I land here,
And how do I now escape?
This life does not suit.

Twenty-four-seven
Work, homework, avoiding work
Becomes a cycle.

Too easily drown
Trying to manage errands,
Social time, sleep, me.

Teach me the breast stroke,
Beating heart lifting me up,
Give me zen to "fly."

Almond Blossoms (for Jan 27)

Evenly-spaced rows,
Pink milk-blossom forests glow
In early spring light.

Unrelated Musings on Coffee Things (for Jan 25-26)

Slow-roasted delight,
Cream and Sugar to sweeten,
Morning sanity.

Coffee-brown marbles
Sparkle in a furry face,
Express doggy whims.

Pensando en Español (for Jan 22-24)

Oye.  Español,
La lengua bella, dulce,
Como música.

Español rusty.
Uso a veces, pero
English fills in gaps.

Tiaras, boquets,
White gowns (but without the grooms),
Quince fiesta.

More Assorted Haiku (for Jan 17-21)

Green light through the leaves,
Azul and white dusted skies,
Spring breathes sweet, alive.

Lyrical genius,
Creative artist's hero,
Weird Al Yankovic.

Art time, music plays,
Productive meditation,
Thread, stitches, patterns.

Ulysses S. Grant's
Well-groomed one, Darwin's cotton,
Facial hair no more.

This haiku should say
Something inappropriate
About your mother.

Syria (for Jan. 15-16)

Syrian people,
To hear your voices, shelling,
Binds my heart with yours.

Your strength inspires,
But pain and fear coexist.
May peace be yours, friends.

Clearing? (for Jan 14)

Has the rain now ceased
Its fierce, thunderous downpour?
Or am I deceived?

Assorted Haiku (for Dec 24-Jan 13)

My blender dun broke,
No more margaritas, no.
Cry tequila tears.

Kenny G is nice
But sax cannot beat my fav':
Skanky trumpet jazz.

Dancing is her life,
Spinning, sliding, and grooving
All throughout the week.

Brontë sisters wrote
Putrid Wuthering Heights and
Delightful Jane Eyre.

Spanish for "monkey"
Equals "mono," which is why
My roommate feels bad.

Cup of tea brewing
Relaxing stimulation
Perfumed book in hand.

As for Elissa,
She wishes that her boyfriend
Looked more like Noel Fielding.

Play-doh and Plato:
Elementary, college.
I prefer the first.

Arms around my dear
As I slip into slumber,
Waking, sweet as dreams.

Disco, pop's hot beats,
Lights flare in rainbow colors.
Groovin' till the dawn.

You think Alaska
Gets lots of illegal
Russian immigrants?

Smoldering embers,
Burning rubies in the dark,
Light the path of dreams.

Hyped up on coffee
But forced to sit in his chair,
Twiddling his thumbs.

Life inside the tunes,
Rhythmic glitter in your veins,
Synthesizer heart.

September breezes
Whisper "adieu" to dew drops,
Too soon cloaked by frost.

Liquor-filled tureen,
Drunkard's swirling diversion,
Sloshing paradise.

Björks's red-carpet gown,
Modernism's murdered grace,
Swan Lake's dying scene.

Breath of a baby
And Susan's poor blackened eye,
Flora in the fields.

Emotions held tight,
Locked away in compartments,
Honey in the comb.

Poison oak haiku
Not all that different from
Frida Kahlo art.

Golden beams of light.
Warm, filtered and dimmed splendor,
As dear sun free-falls.

Assorted Love Haiku (for Dec 20-23)

If I were to tell
How I dote on Mi Vida,
You would surely blush.

Freely I give it,
Blessed with no need to question
Love's return to me.

In every way
Blessed by the love and respect
You give me each day.

I could marry you
Just for your dear family,
Like how Laurie felt.

Chad (for Dec 16-19)

Chad the compost worm
Has been eating coffee grounds,
Buzzing, on a high!

Naughty little Chad
Will not eat his veggies,
Only coffee beans.

Sleepless little worm,
All-nighters without cause,
Too much roasted bean.

Zipping, zooming Chad
Bounces off compost-bin walls,
Caffeinated fiend!

Porcelain Demon (for Dec 13-15)

Porcelain demon,
Worst invention still in use:
Sensor-flush toilets.

Vogue stupidity,
Perfected imperfection,
Consistent failure.

Wastes dear resources,
Perturbs befuddled users,
Seated, flushes thrice.
